The process to becoming a Registered AHP in the UK

Step 1: English Language Proficiency

  • Take the IELTS or the TOEFL.

Step 2: HCPC Registration

  • Create an account with the UK HCPC , sign in and create a new online application to get started.
  • Pay the scrutiny fee.

Step 3: HCPC Review of your application

  • The HCPC will check whether your application is complete and note any missing or incorrectly certified documents.

Step 4: Third party verifications

  • The HCPC will be contacting your education provider, any relevant regulatory or professional bodies and any professional referees to verify the information that you’ve provided.
  • Make sure you have made the above mentioned institutions / persons aware of this to ensure smooth verification.

Step 5: Acceptance to the HCPC Register

  • Once the HCPC is satisfied that your application complies with their standard you can complete the registration process by paying the registration fee.

Step 6: Health clearance and TB test

You’ll need to have a tuberculosis (TB) test if all of the following are true:
  • you’re coming to the UK for 6 months or more
  • you’ve lived in any of these listed countries for 6 months or more
  • you were living there (or another listed country) within the last 6 months

Step 7: Forward other relevant documents to us

These documents will include:
  • Other ID documents (Passport, National ID and/or marriage certificate).
  • Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) – for every country you have lived in for more than 12 months in the last 10 years.
  • References – from every employer and educational institution you have worked for / attended in the last 3 years.

STEP 8: Interview and Job Offer

  • Once we are confident that you meet a client’s requirements we will set up an interview for you. We will ensure that you are prepared and coach you before the interview.

Job offer

  • Once you’ve passed a job interview and signed your offer letter, you’ll be issued a certificate of sponsorship.

STEP 9: Apply for your Certificate of Sponsorship (COS)

  • Your Employer will apply for this on your behalf, as they will be acting as your sponsor. You must have a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS) to apply for your VISA.

STEP 10: Apply for your VISA

  • As a healthcare professional you will be entitled to apply for a Health and Care Worker VISA. This usually takes 3 to 4 weeks.
  • After being on this visa for five years you would be eligible to apply for indefinite leave to remain (ILR) in the UK.
  • After a year with ILR you may be able to apply for British Citizenship.
